Model Audit

One dashboard that grades the health of your Revit model, shows you what's behind each grade, and lets you fix the common problems without leaving the window.

What it does

Model Audit scans the open model and grades a broad set of health metrics — file size, warnings, geometry weight, purgeable items, links and imports, groups, worksets, views, sheets, MEP systems and project standards — on a simple scale from Low to Critical. Click any metric to see the elements behind it, find them in Revit and deal with them on the spot.

It's built for BIM managers and project leads who need a quick, repeatable health check before a milestone, a model handover or a performance clean-up — and for anyone who wants to know why a model feels slow or heavy.

Before you start

  • Revit 2024, 2025, 2026 or 2027.
  • An active AECOtools seat or trial — Model Audit is included with a seat.
  • Open the model you want to audit and make it the active document. No particular view or selection is needed.
  • Worksharing is optional; workset-related checks simply have nothing to report in a non-workshared model.
  • Large models take a little longer to analyse before the window appears.

Quick start

  1. Open the model and click Model Audit on the Audit panel.
  2. Scan the metric list on the left. Use the Severity filter to focus on, say, the Critical items.
  3. Click a metric to open its details — tables, charts and tabs showing what's behind the grade.
  4. Use the row buttons to select or view elements in Revit, or double-click a row to jump to it.
  5. Fix what you can from the panel, for example with Purge Selected or Delete Selected.
  6. Click Export Report to save the audit as an HTML report or Excel workbook.

Tips

Run Model Audit in your office template (or a model you trust) first and record it as your standard — every project after that can be compared against it.

Double-check your ticks before purging or deleting. Changes made from Model Audit can be reversed with Revit's Undo.

After a clean-up, close and re-run Model Audit to see the updated grades across the whole model — then export the report as a before-and-after record.
